5 out of 5 stars Top stuff for the price   July 26, 2006

Great! I wanted something which I could use on my motorbike on those long boring motorway journeys and was advised to go for Etymotic ER6i or Shure EC2 - I really couldn't justify the spend on either of those so went for these.

NOTE! you do have to get them fitted "properly" otherwise the base is really poor - BUT...get them "right in" and they are great - work fine on the bike i.e. not total isolation but enough to be able to hear the music okay.

For the money they are excellent.

Like I said YOU HAVE TO GET THEM FITTED RIGHT - I've copied the following from a previous review which tell you how:

How do you fit them.

Well first of all try the various sizes of rubber earbuds until you find the right size for your ear. It took me several goes.

When fitting try the following;

Take your left hand over your head to grab top of your right ear with the left hand's fingers.

Pull the top of right ear up to open up your ear canal

Put your ear phone in while you hold up your ear as above.

While you hold in the ear phone, let go the ear held by left fingers.

Keep pressing the earphone in place with your right hand for a few seconds to let everything settle down as this help the ear "grip" the earphone bud and hold it in place

Do the same thing for the other side .... just use the right hand over the head instead..

If its a good fit you can tell as if you tap the earphone (gently) it feels as if the noise is inside your head. You need to get a good seal to give the right sound with decent bass.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money better than Sony Ex-71's!   July 2, 2006

I bought these earphones to replace my Sony Ex-71's as I was getting frustrated with their lack of volume on my Creative Vision M (even after installing the U.S. firmware) and tendancy to distort the bass slightly. I am very happy with these earphones they match the Sony's for sound quality and surpass the Sony's in other areas. Few points:

PRO'S

Made from durable rubber material unlike Sony's which rot.

Dont have a stupid extension cord which pulls on the earphones and is far too long!

Are VERY loud for a pair of in-ear's. Much louder than Sony Ex 71's which is good for battery.

Excellent sound quality and isolation

Comes with a pair of large size rubber ear-pieces which are larger than the 'large' size of the Sony's

Wider frequency range means will not distort the bass as badly as Sony's on say Creative or Ipod players.

Cheap at half the price of its nearest rival

CONS: Dont look as nice as the Sony Ex-71's but hey its a small price to pay!

5 out of 5 stars A decent pair of earphones...   February 26, 2006

I picked a pair of these little blighters up to replace the Sony MDR-EX71SL earphones that I owned until a recent, bizarre cable-chopping accident. I must admit that the praise that has been heaped upon them (for the best part) is fully warranted. For a significant saving in £ sterling, these earphones offer sound that is both brighter and offers up more ooomph(!) than the Sony competition, while being more substantial in the hand. Thankfully they're just as comfortable (or uncomfortable if you prefer) as the Sony pair I owned previously so there's no added torment.

Admittedly they lack the added extras that the Sony offers, like the little pouch and ear-piece holder, and the one piece cable might not be everyone's preference, but I've still got the bits that came with my old earphones, so I'm alright!

I bought these awhile back for my ipod mini cause the ipod earphones (which cost around £30 by the way) dent extremely easily causing this huge buzzing sound.

I found them excellent, not only are they much louder than any normal earphones but surpass most other in-ears on volume. When i wear them I can hear nothing around me, it even has no trouble competing with the school bus journey I take each day with about 50 12 yr olds screaming at the top of their voices. In addition not only are you spared from any unwanted outside noise, but they're really good for insulating the sound so you don't annoy other people (even when on full volume).

The only problem is when you have them on they're so good at blocking out other noise, that they become a safety hazard. Frequently I haven't heard the phone or the doorbell ring as a result of using these (even when I'm right next to them) and if there was a fire or something like that I would be totally unaware.

The headphones themselves have a nice design and look really sleek, it come with 3 different size of ear piece so you can decide which fits best. Often in the past I have troubles with wires or the actual ear piece breaking after constant bashing on tables and in pockets, but the EP-630's have a study structure and are not easily broken.

Overall for around £16 I give them 5/5 stars, 10 times better than alot of headphones twice that price.
